October 2019 Block Lotto:
The Lotto Block will be the Cranberry Chutney block.
|The Cranberry Chutney Quilt|
Using techniques learned in Sharon's Cross-Cut Quilt workshop on inserting strips of color into a single block, instead of on the diagonal cuts on the 10 inch squares, make a random vertical cut on the 10" square. Pick a 1" strip of contrasting color. Sew one 1" strip on the vertical cut edge of the 10" square and press. Add the corresponding piece of the cut square to the other side of the strip, making sure the strip is centered vertically. Sew the seam and press.
Now make a random horizontal cut on the same 10" square and insert another contrasting color 1" strip, as above. Sew and press. You can continue cutting ad inserting strips as desired, up to three (3) in each direction. The result will resemble a plaid block. As you can see from the pictured quilt, some squares have only one vertical strip and only one horizontal strip, some have 3 horizontal strips, some two each direction, It's up to you.
The final block will be trimmed to 9 1/2 inches. Please do not trim your block any smaller than 10" square.
Please bring your completed block(s) to the November meeting.
June 2019 Block Lotto:
the Lotto Block will be a 1/2 Log Cabin block. in black, white and one color, using a solid (or almost-solid) color 2 1/2 inch square and 2 1/2 inch black or white strips. If you have any questions, call Judy E.
Please make at least two blocks, one predominately white and one predominately black. That way there will be enough of each color for the winner of the blocks to make the pattern correctly.
